A Single Man

Friday night I watched A Single Man and if you haven't seen it yet you MUST. I loved absolutely everything about this movie...everything! Please, fall in love with this movie too.

Love

There was lots of love going around a couple of weeks ago. I finally watched both Paris, Je T'aime and New York, I Love You. Basically just a big mash-up of love stories and stars. While I liked the original Paris one the best, I liked how the New York ones intertwined their stories. Both would be perfect to watch back-to-back on a rainy day.

Coach

Friday night I rented Coach staring Hugh Dancy. I've been a big fan of his ever since The Jane Austin Book Club then fell in love with him in the movie Adam. With this movie, he's cemented his place as one of my favorite actors. The movie is about this trust fund guy who's girlfriend breaks up with him because he's a grown child and can't get his life together. To get her back, he decides to take a job as a soccer coach which eventually leads him to learn how to be a grown up from the kids. It was WAY better than I just described it.

City Island, NY

At the very last minute last night I decided to go to a screening for the movie City Island. Even though it was a "blizzard" [sidebar: apparently that word means nothing because New Yorkers will throw it out there no matter how much snow we get] I decided to go anyways after watching the trailer and deciding it might be worthwhile after previously hearing nothing about it. I really loved this movie! I have no idea what's actually going to become of this but I give it two thumbs way up. Loveddd it.

The Blind Side

Thursday night I went to see The Blind Side staring Sandra Bullock. She's my favorite actress but this is without a doubt the best role that she's ever played. It was about the true story of football player Michael Oher. Easily one of the best movies I saw all year. Loved it!

Plus: She's an interior designer!

Hello, Handsome.

Yesterday I got around to watching Uncertainty starting Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Lynn Collins. It follows the couple on a 4th of July in New York with the flip of a coin and the consequences of their choices. I was completely engrossed in the movie and couldn't figure out how everything was going to end. But I was also all over the fact that JGL is a major stud. He was on SNL this weekend too and was actually really awesome. (Plus, he impersonated Jason Mraz). Smitten. Oh right, I got sidetracked... I really liked the movie.

Uncertainty

After seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 500 Days of Summer I really want to check out his new movie Uncertainty. It just opened though so I'll check it out eventually. BUT (and this is kind of cool I think) you can also watch it (right now even though it just came to theaters) if you check out your IFC tab on Movies on Demand.

Opa!

Today was such a gloomy, rainy day that I ended up just staying in and renting a movie tonight. I rented My Life In Ruins staring Nia Vardalos(My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and Richard Dreyfuss. It's about a historian who loses her job so she hosts tours of Greece and just when she thinks her life is falling apart she [inevitably] finds love. I really enjoyed this movie and give two thumbs way up to seeing it!

Objectified

Yesterday I went to a screening of the documentary Objectified at the Cooper-Hewitt museum. The movie is done by Gary Huswit- the same guy who made the Helvetica documentary. I don't care how you see this movie but you really should. It was really interesting to think about the design of everyday objects.

Gigantic

Tonight I also rented Gigantic staring Zooey Deschanel and Paul Dano. OK so I really have no idea what this movie was actually about but I really liked it! I'm not sure how that happens. It was a little scatterbrained story of unexpected love.

Smart People

Tonight I finally watched the movie Smart People. All through the movie the characters are really disfunctional and frustrating but the end was surprising. Overall I generally enjoyed it. It's worth renting at least.

Mr. Holland's Opus

I've been obsessing over Mr. Holland's Opus tonight. It's my favorite movie and for some reason everyone I talk to has never seen it. So please, do yourself a favor and rent it!

Subject #20

This afternoon I went to go see Brief Interviews with Hideous Men (that new movie that's directed by and sort-of staring John Krasinski) and it was surprisingly really good. I'm so glad that he's come off his movie slump starting out this summer with Away We Go (LOVE) and now Hideous Men. The movie is pretty much his ex-girlfriend trying to figure out why all men just plain stink. The ending was a little huh? but overall, two thumbs up. I'd love to read the book now.

Taking Woodstock

I went tonight to go see Taking Woodstock finally and the movie was alright. It wasn't really what I had expected (and I thought it was just ok). There's actually a really great cast but the standout for me was Jonathan Groff. He seemed to familiar but I couldn't place him until I came home and googled it. He was in Spring Awakening! Everyone I love lately is popping out of that musical.

Oober Crush #2

There's not much I can really say but I'm a little bit in love with John Krasinski. While I'm so excited for the Office to be starting up again soon (September 17th!) I just saw the trailer for his new movie Brief Interviews With Hideous Men. Besides the fact that he's in it [so I would go see it anyways] it looks like a great movie. This is also his directorial debut! Now soon can I possibly see this?

The Time Traveler's Wife

I just went to see The Time Traveler's Wife staring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana and while it was a good movie, it still wasn't as good as the book. Read this book! Simply heart-wrenching as all good love stories should be.

Lars and the Real Girl

I just watched Lars and the Real Girl last night and every time I watch it I simply love it more and more. It's such a witty story that's really touching. Plus, I love the men of the movie (Ryan Gosling and Paul Schneider). If you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for?!

Paper Heart

Tonight I went to go see Paper Heart staring Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera. It's a "mocumentary" with Charlyne talking about the one thing she doesn't know: love. She ends up meeting Michael at a party and it turns into their relationship. I was left feeling a little confused about this movie but generally enjoyed it. The best part though possibly could've been the song that she wrote him.

Waitress

I just watched Waitress tonight for the first time in forever and I completely forgot how good that movie really is. Once you watch it though, you're going to be craving pie. (I had a slice of cherry!)
